As a follow-up to Sir John Timpson's visit to Bangor University last month, we are invited to meet the team behind the the transformation of Altrincham.

You are invited to visit Altrincham for a meeting and guided tour with leaders who did it.

Would you like to find out how they made it happen?

As a follow-up to Sir John Timpson's visit to Bangor University last month, we are invited to meet the team behind the the transformation of Altrincham.

We will be guided by Matt Colledge, the council leader who drove the town’s remarkable turnaround  - from "ghost town” in 2010 to England’s High St of the Year, eight years later.

The aim of this visit is to learn how lessons learned in Altrincham might inspire the regeneration and transformation of Bangor.

When: 30th May (leaving in the morning - further details to be confirmed)

How: we will organise transport (a minibus or coach) leaving from/returning to Bangor

Confirmation needed: please confirm here your interest by May 3rd)

Why is this opportunity worth our time?

In 2010, 30% of Altrincham's High St shops were empty. Businesses of all sizes, residents, investors didn’t want to touch the town, and pessimism was widespread.

Matt College explains:  "There was a mix of different ideas, among competing interests, about what to do. There was an expectation that the council should sort it out, rather than a mobilise partnership of all talents. We lacked a clear and compelling vision that people were prepared to get behind.”

Altrincham Forward was set up by Matt to change this dynamic. By 2018, "all manner of businesses, community groups, influential residents, councillors and officer plus other leading public sector organisations were playing their part behind a unified vision and action plan. It was hard work, and there were many difficulties, but it paid off in the end.”

As the Masterplan for the Future of Bangor is being developed, this visit is an opportunity to enrich the process, connect ideas and people, and shape an integrated vision to inform the decisions that lie ahead.

Please let us know if you wish to join by May 7th.
